Manufacturing Sanitary Pad in hometown to solve migration woes

Menstruation may be a social stigma for the people in the tribal district of Palghar, but for the women of the katkari community in Dhabon village, manufacturing sanitary pads is a source of permanent income.

Women belonging to the katkari community, a Primitive Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) usually migrate to different parts if the state to work in brick kilns and as farm laborers… However, an initiative under the Integrated Tribal Development Projects (ITDP) has given them an opportunity to earn their livelihood without migrating from one place to another.

The project, a brainchild of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Ashima Mittal, the project has been funded by Manav Vikas Mission of Maharashtra and is being implemented by ITDP, Dahanu.
